Announcing changes to o7 Node RPC access

Published

We will soon be enforcing one-location-per-connection limits for o7 Node RPC access. This means that you will only be able to connect to o7 Node RPC nodes in one location at a time, from your account IP address.

For instance, if you operate a VPS in the Frankfurt area, you can set your account location to Frankfurt and connect to that RPC node. You will no longer be able to access the Virginia RPC node, or any associated services in that region.

Why are we doing this?

We are dedicated to providing the best experience for our users. By enforcing this change, we are ensuring that users both connect to the RPC endpoint closest to them (providing the best performance) and that we can maintain high levels of service and availability on all RPC nodes that we provide.

In recent months, we've observed increasing load across our global infrastructure, with many users simultaneously connecting to multiple regional endpoints. This practice has led to:

  • Unnecessary network congestion
  • Increased latency for all users
  • Higher operational costs
  • Reduced overall system reliability

Our data shows that most applications perform optimally when connecting to the geographically closest node. Multi-region connections rarely provide meaningful benefits for standard workflows but significantly impact our infrastructure.

Timeline for Implementation

  • Today (April 16, 2025): Announcement of upcoming changes
  • April 23, 2025: Automatic region assignment based on IP address for all active accounts
  • May 1, 2025: Full enforcement begins - only connections to your assigned region will be permitted

Automatic Region Assignment

On April 23rd, 2025, we will automatically set default regions for all active accounts based on your IP address. This ensures that most users will experience minimal disruption when enforcement begins. You will receive an email notification confirming your assigned region.

If the automatically assigned region is not optimal for your use case, you can manually change it following the instructions below.

How do I set my location?

You can set your location in the Settings section of your account. Here's how:

  1. Log in to your o7 Node Dashboard
  2. Navigate to Your Account > Edit Account
  3. Select your preferred region from the dropdown menu (Virginia or Frankfurt)
  4. Click Save Changes

Your selected region will become active within 15 minutes. We recommend choosing the region geographically closest to where your application or VPS is hosted.

Available Regions

We currently offer RPC nodes in two regions:

  • North America: Virginia
  • Europe: Frankfurt

We're continuously evaluating additional regions based on user demand and will announce any expansion of our node infrastructure in the future.

What if my needs change?

We understand that your infrastructure needs may evolve. You can change your region selection at any time.

Preparing for the Change

To ensure a smooth transition:

  1. Check your auto-assigned region after April 23rd
  2. Verify it's optimal for your application's location
  3. Update your connection strings to use the region-specific endpoint
  4. Test connections before May 1st
  5. Monitor performance after the change takes effect

Questions?
